Atheist: do you celebrate CHRISTmas?

if so....why? what i mean by "celebrate" is do you give gifts, recieve gifts, eat CHRISTmas dinner, attend company CHRISTmas parties, decorate your house/apartment in lighting, wreathes or such, utter the words "merry CHRISTmas", take your child to get photo's with "SANTA", attend family gatherings, ect ect ect? **TRUE story** my friends son told him (the dad) that he was atheist (the son is 16). so my friend (the dad) will not allow him to participate in ANY XMAS celebrations (ALL listed above & more)! wont buy him a car (cuz he says cars are made by man...& man is created in the eyes of God), wont let him eat ANY type of food for the family (actually locks up the frig, freezer & pantry) cuz he says man made this food & man is created in they eyes of God! makes him GROW his own food if he wants to eat (he DOES allow him to join his family at the dinner table though). banishes him to the basement during Christmas celebrations (i.e. family comming over, opening presents, xmas dinner, ect), will not buy him Xmas presents & wont allow ANYONE to give him one! took away his clothes (cuz they were made by man & man was created in Gods eyes) and had his grandmother make him handmade clothing BUT his son had to work off the labor & cost of material to her! he has taken ALL "worldly" posessions away from him (t.v. cable, internet, phone, cell phone, dvd, bed, pic's, ect ect)...even took him out of public school (so he wouldn't have "God's gifts" to use)...so now he's home schooled! ***what are everyone's thoughts on my friend*** i think he went over the top....but what are your views? thanks for your time!
